![]() "Karin Jaggi: Queen of the Caribbean, PWA champ" Karin Jaggi Freestyle Campion !! Karin Jaggi completed her comeback in Bonaire and won the fifth round to make it 3-2 against Colette Guadagnino (JP, Neil Pryde) and take both the Queen of the Caribbean and overall PWA freestyle titles! After the two of the three finals the girls were one apiece so it was down to the wire to decide the event and overall title in the last final. It was Jaggi who held her nerve and strung together the better performance and won the judges decision. "Karin Jaggi clew first" KARIN JAGGI: "I am very happy to be freestyle world champion. I think this place is officially the number one freestyle destination in the world. I love it here! We are really missing the twins here. That is a very sad story and we really want them to come back next year we miss them a lot!" And: "It was a very close competition. I came here early and learned a lot because it was windy before the event. The first two days I completely lost it. I don’t know why really. I think I relaxed after that a little bit. In the end I think I was sailing as good as I could. At the end it was super tight and I was super stoked to win!" QUEEN OF THE CARIBBEAN - Bonaire: 1. Karin Jaggi (F2, Arrows) 2. ![]() "Karin Jaggi: willy skipper, Colette Guadagnino: grubby" Jaggi and Guadagnino head to head The fight for the "Queen of the Caribbean" is getting closer. After two victories by Colette Guadagnino from Venezuela, on day 3 of the competition Karin Jaggi raised her game in the battle against Colette and took victory after the combined results of the three finals. Jaggi pulled of several key moves in her heats today and her repertoire included spocks, push tacks and willy skippers. KARIN JAGGI: "I am stoked to win today. If I had lost I could have pretty much packed up. I have looked at the judges’ sheets and think I have a better idea at what I should do. I think I can win now…I hope so!" In the women’s fourth elimination Karin Jaggi won again making it 2-2 against Colette Guadagnino after four rounds by taking a convincing victory in the three finals. Jaggi strung together a varied routine of intricate maneuvers including stall tacks, grubbys and spocks. The overall situation between the women is now neck and neck between Jaggi and Guadagnino and the stage is all set for a dramatic climax to the ladies freestyle finals. In the men'c competition the world freestyle title is still available, too. The winners of the last days included the ones of Ricardo Campello and Bonaire local Tonki Frans. posted by editors at 11:15 AM |

C. Guadagnino in Bonaire pole position ![]() photo: PWA/Carter It’s been a dramatic day of insane freestyle action here at the Bonaire PWA freestyle finals. In the women’s competition Colette Guadagnino (recently kicked out of the team by JP and Neil Pryde) was today’s winner ahead of Karin Jaggi (F2, Arrows) after coming out on top of the three ladies finals. Despite some slick moves form Karin Jaggi, Colette’s routine, which included spocks, grubby’s and some incredible transitions proved enough to win the favor of the judges. As the light finally faded at 6.30 pm Matt Pritchard and Douglas Diaz finished the day neck and neck in the men’s double elimination and will have to sail one more heat tomorrow to determine the winner. Pritchard had come through from the losers and managed to beat Diaz in the first double elimination final and as a result has put himself on track for the overall title. Diaz won the favor of the judges with a sensational routine, which included clew first flaka’s, the Toucan (reverse willy skipper) and one-legged flat-water forwards. One day down here in Bonaire and we have already seen some of the most amazing freestyle competition in the history of the PWA. With five more days of competition remaining there are still plenty of scores to be settled. posted by editors at 2:37 AM |

PWA Freestyle Tour Finals Ruano Moreno twins stay away due to family bereavement A recent family bereavement has meant that top Mistral, North riders Daida and Iballa Moreno have been forced to pull out of the women’s freestyle finals. Karin Jaggi (F2, Arrows) and Colette Guadagnino (JP, Neil Pryde) are now the two main contenders for the title and both have been here on the island for the last week acclimatizing to the local conditions. KARIN JAGGI: "Its freestyle paradise here. The wind is 5.3m or 5m for me, which is absolutely perfect. No wonder the kids are so good. I am feeling very sorry for the twins. I don’t even know what to say." COLETTE GUADAGNINO: "I love it here. It’s a great place, the water is warm and super blue. It makes you want to sail and never get out of the water. I am certainly going to do my best to win the title. It all depends who wins this event out of Karin and myself. I think that is the scenario!" The PWA Freestyle men’s and women’s tour finals are all set to roll on the sun drenched beaches of Bonaire in the Caribbean. Crystal clear water, wall-to-wall sunshine and 15 - 20-knot trade winds are the order of the day down at Lac Bay at the competition headquarters. Today was registration day and a last chance for sailors to practice and refine the latest hot moves before battle commences over the forthcoming week. Judging from the standard of sailing during the warm up sessions it looks like we are in store for a mind-blowing week of insane freestyle action! Since the last PWA event in Canada (men only) it seems every sailor has been on the freestyle program and the level out on the water has once again risen to a new high. This is the first time the tropical Island of Bonaire has played host to a major international windsurfing event and the arrival of the PWA world tour sailors has been stirring up major interest around the local community. Windsurfing has become extremely popular here on the island especially amongst the youngsters who have been taking to the water as early as the age of three years old. With steady trades blowing year round and warm water as a playground, the net result has produced a cauldron of extremely talented sailors. Tonki and Tati Frans have been the two most outstanding sailors to emerge from Bonaire and stormed onto the world tour circuit this year and causing some major upsets along the way! posted by editors at 12:59 AM |
