"Surfari" in Mar Menor, Spain

press release: The Mar Menor is a natural paradise on the Murcian coast and ideal for water sports. Over 70 kms of beaches around the interior sea and many more along the Mediterranean side of the coast, an average temperature of 17º and good wind conditions, all make the Mar Menor an ideal place for sailing. And of course windsurfing is one of the most popular nautical sports, with the Surfari being the most emblematic windsurfing event held during the year. The Surfari of the Mar Menor is the big autumn meeting (weekend of October 11th and 12th) for all windsurfers, with well over a hundred boards and numerous exhibiters decending on the town of Los Alcázares for this classic event.

The meeting itself combines long-distance races around the Mar Menor with an exhibition on the beaches of Los Alcázares of all the new equipment that will be appearing next season.

For this, the VI holding of the event, there will be more prizes and more participants, of whom we hope there will be even more foreigners taking part. The event, organised by the Estación Náutica del Mar Menor (an organisation bringing together the entrepreneurs of the area), also has the support of the magazine Surf a Vela.

Two different regattas will be held, one for Formula Windsurfing, with no limitation on the material used (bring your license and class card), and another for Formula Open where sails are limited to less than 10 sq. metres. The registration fee is just 15€.

If you need to know more about such things as accommodation in the area and flights to the Mar Menor, then check out the web page: "www.enmarmenor.net"
The Mar Menor itself can be reached by motorway from Alicante (80 km) and Murcia (50 km). By plane (Alicante airport 62 km) and San Javier (6 km), and by train and bus from Murcia.

Apart from the competition itself, the event will coincide with the Fiestas of Los Alcázares and there will be concerts during the night, music on the beach, lots of partying and free ‘baptisms’ in many other nautical sports for anyone that wants to try their hand at diving, canoeing or sailing.

NEWS from around the world

France: windgirls.com article in Planchemag special edition

French magazine "Planchemag" dedicates it's recent issue to "les filles qui font le windsurf" (girls who windsurf). The special issue includes lots of articles and photos with "female" focus. No wonder: "Planchemag" had "professional" help: Iballa and Daida Ruano Moreno had showed up at Paris and did a nice job as "guest editors in chief". Among other stories French readers can find Windfee's "loveletter to my sport", which has been originally published at windgirls.com back in January. Another story that our readers might find themselves familiar with is Uli Hoelzls Sri Lanka travel story . No question about it: windgirls.com magazine congratulates the Planchemag team around redactrice Fanny Lestelle. Great job!

Venezuela: Carolina's brother Cheo reports

During the PWA freestyle worldcup in Fuerteventura windgirls.com magazine had the opportunity to talk to Douglas 'Cheo" Diaz about his sister Carolina, who had a serious kitesurf accident some months ago (report). Cheo reports that Carolina is feeling better now and able to move one leg a little bit, the completely numb feeling seems to fade. Lets hope and pray...
