Asian Windsurfing Tour 2005

Asia is rightly famous for it’s exotic islands, warm welcome – and great winds. It’s also home to professionally-run windsurfing competitions with world class race direction. These competitions will take place:

19-22 January 2005: Monsoon Madness, Kuantan, Malaysia
26-29 January 2005: Mana Mana Amslam, Bintan, Indonesia
31 January – 5 February 2005: Boracay Funboard Cup, Boracay, Philippines
16-20 February 2005 : Marianas Open, Saipan
27 – 31 May, 2005: Ulsan International Windsurfing Championship, Ulsan, Korea

All events are downwind slalom events. Competition does take place in winds as light as 9 knots. There is some prize money at some of the events. Malaysia: US$1,500, Indonesia: US$TBC, Philippines: None, Saipan: estimated US$3,500, Korea: US$10,000

There is equipment for hire in Philippines (limited), Indonesia (limited), Saipan and Korea. Each event on the AWT is filmed for international TV. There is a potential household audience of over 160 million homes. The Tour is Presented by Foster’s, the Aussie Beer.
