Allison Shreeve: New "A class" speed sailing record

At St. Maries de la Mer, in southern France, on 17th November 2005, Allison Shreeve of Australia set a new world speed record of 27.70 knots, equal to 51.3kph. With her 10.7m NeilPryde RS5 sail and F2 FX106L slalom board, Allison broke the world "A class" (above 10m sail) speed record three times in one day, which was previously held by Marianne Tertian of France (26.36 knots).
Allison still has her sights set on breaking the current womens world speed record held by Karin Jaggi of Switzerland (41.25 knots), and continues to wait patiently for stronger winds to reach the purpose-built canal at St. Maries dela Mer.

Allison: "I am really happy to have this record, and am most grateful to the MOS team fortheir support and for giving me the opportunity at this wonderful facility. Thanks also to my sponsors Neil Pryde, F2, Deboichet, and Linfox. I came here though to have a crack at the outright womens world speed record, and will continue to wait patiently for the stronger winds to kick in for the main event!"

Kelly Slater 7x ASP World Champion!!

Kelly Slater made history again this week by clinching his world record 7th ASP World Title. With legions of surf fans worldwide glued to their computer monitors and thousands of frothing Brazilians cheering on the beach, Nathan Hedge beat Andy Irons in the quarterfinals of the Nova Schin Surf Festival to hand Kelly Slater his 7th crown.

After a remarkable year that included victories in Tahiti, Fiji, Jeffreys Bay, and Trestles, Slater has achieved what no other professional surfer has ever accomplished. He’s set or broken nearly every record in the book. He has won 3 more ASP World Tiles than any other surfer in the history of the sport and he’s managed to become the youngest and oldest world champion ever – age 20 in 1992, age 33 in 2005.
