Girls Kite Camp Cabarete ![]() The Womens Kiteboarding Association (WKA), in conjunction with Laurel Eastman Kiteboarding in Cabarete, is excited to announce our first camp of 2006! The WKA strives to introduce women to kiteboarding in a friendly, safe, non-threatening, non-egotistical, camarederie-driven environment. This camp is focused on just that, and what a better place for learning than in beautiful, tropical Cabarete! Whether you have never flown a trainer kite before or you're ready for your first body-drag, this camp will teach you everything to get up and riding. The WKA and Laurel Eastman Kiteboarding's team of instructors will give students four days of personalized instruction on and off the water. Pro Kids Worlds ![]() ![]() Sarah Quita Offringa, next generation windgirl; photos: ericgirard.com In 2005, Bonaire hosted the world premiere of Pro Kids Worlds, the first freestyle windsurf championship for specifically for kids. Talented youth from around the globe traveled to pristine Lac Bay to see the training ground of the now world famous Bonaire Sailing team and to compete. Windsurf celebrities flew in to this event sponsored by Starboard. In the house was windsurfing ambassador and the man "wid de action" Brian "Irieman" Talma. A pool of young talent hitting the water included Kai Lenny and Connor Baxter from Maui. Team Dominican was on hand as well as sailors from all parts of the windsurf world. It was a windless event but this didn't dim the spirits of the sailors or stop the show. Wind or no wind the kids competed and made the event truly memorable. In 2006 Starboard once again steps up to sponsor a new an better event that is expected to eclipse the 2005 show. Qualifiers are slated to be held this summer in Europe and North America with the finals being held Aug. 3-6 in Bonaire. Bonaire welcomes the all young freestylers and their families to this Dutch Caribbean island. It's the perfect way to end the summer break, mix and mingle with other windsurf talent and show off new moves. Sponsors: Starboard, TCB inc., KLM, Caribbean Wind and Sun Vacations, the Official travel agency for Pro Kids, Bonaire Windsurf Place, Windguru, Budget Bonaire, the official car rental for Pro Kids, Windguru, Hot Sails, and Nettech NV. Contact Ann Phelan at ann@bonairecaribbean.com to book air, car, accommodations and gear rentals. Special group rates will be available on KLM from certain points in Europe. prokidsfreestyle.com posted by editors at 8:33 PM |
