Two Italian windgirls brutishly murdered on the island of Sal, Cape Verde.
“She came to breathe the wind of life, and ended up breathing the wind of death.”

On the eve of the new PWA wave event in Sal, Cape Verde two Italians, Giorgia Busato (28) and Dalia Saiani (33, a former junior windsurfing champion) have been murdered in an extraordinary brutish way. Giorgia and Dalia, who had visited the island for vacation and windsurfing, had been abused, slayed with rocks and – at least in one case – been buried still alive, while a third girl (aged 17) was happy enough to survive the attacks.

The latter gives an excellent insight on the reaction of Cape Verdeans on the tragic events, who held a touching vigil for the two on the island.

Jealousy or greed? While Dalias former boyfriend, local Sal resident Sandro Santos Rosario, confessed to the murder and initially all media had been following the idea of the revenge killing of a jealous ex lover, the last days obviously brought a reasonable blowoff. Italian newspaper Corriere della Sara reported, that besides Santos Rosario and two other men also a forth person had been arrested: The murderers girlfriend, who obviously had been in possession of 10.000 Euros that had disappeared from one of the victims house!

The Fathers. Renzo Busato, Giorgia’s father, told the press that his daughter loved windsurfing. “She came to breathe the wind of life, and ended up breathing the wind of death.” Find the article here: www.asemana.cv

Dalia Saiani on Sardinia by Tanja Emig

Tanja Emig, the Austrian top windsurfer who had met Dalia back in 2002 in Sardinia, still had contact with the Italian. Tanja: “I received her last email on December 25. She wrote from Brasil/Jeri and that she liked this place very much. She also wrote that many things had changed in her life in recent times and that she needed some calm to think about the future. She had separated with her boyfriend Alessandro some months before – they had run a bar in Ravenna together…” Tanja describes Dalia as a extremely nice person, always smiling and in good humor.

The twins have so far confirmed the separation, also that they were not able to reach an agreement and that it had been better to separate. The last info that Iballa gave was the fact, that Fanatic will NOT be their new board sponsor...

In the meantime MauiSails.com Marketing Manager Bogusz 'Bogo' Trepka was "sad to report that Sarah-Quita Offringa has decided to leave MauiSails for the coming season. Her stellar performances last year, and her special personality has made us proud to be associated with her. We will miss having her energy and enthusiasm in our group, and wish her all the best with her future choices. It was a great thing for MauiSails to be involved with her and we will always appreciate her contribution to our beginnings."
